Top 5 Reasons to Make Washington DC Your New Years Choice

17 11 2009

1. Barack Obama– In case you weren’t in the city for the inauguration, things have changed just a little. The food seems to taste a little better, the air a little fresher, the seats on the metro a little softer, and the people a little nicer. Millions came from far and wide to see the 44th president sworn in, and on January 20, 2009, history was made. I was among the crowd of frost bitten, exhausted, hungry, and inspired individuals, and yet, it was all worth it. Obama has already had a profound impact on the world, and Washington DC is where it all happens.

2. The Redskins won a game!– Not even the arrival of Obama could help this team, but they’ve won another game. Plagued by key injuries, and a curse in the head office named Dan Snyder, the Redskins just can’t seem to get it together. They may not be much to watch on television, but just minutes outside of the DC line is the relatively new, and beautiful Redskin’s stadium.

Get your mumbo sauce on the side to avoid having soggy fries.

3. Chicken and Mumbo Sauce– Much has been made about the classic chicken and mumbo sauce. Some places make it spicy, others sweet, but however you prefer yours, just make sure you try it! Although Adam from “Man vs.Food” didn’t come during his tour of DC (he went to Ben’s chili bowl), all followers of the show from the area wished his first stop was at a carryout. So the next time you’re in the area, don’t leave until you’ve had 4 wings, fries, mumbo sauce, and a half and half on the side. Bon a petite.

4. The City– From an abundance of live music, lounges, a club scene to die for, and free museums, DC has it all. If you aren’t a person who spends your nights at the club, explore the sites throughout downtown DC near Capitol Hill such as the Lincoln Memorial. The aforementioned, Adam from Man vs. Food gives his take on the tourists sites of the city here.

5. The AOI Official Release Party– And the most important (at least for the sake of the blog), we’ve made DC our official release event location! We’ve been working diligently on building on the positive movement and support that was set into place at NC A&T’s homecoming. Although not confirmed, we’re aiming to have our event on the Saturday after New Years. This will give those who celebrated the New Year festivities a little too hard, the time to recover on Friday, and come out mid day Saturday for the event.

We’ve narrowed our venues to Jin, Indulj, and Hominy. We’ve been working on men’s AND women t-shirt designs and we’ll be sure to reveal a sneak peek pretty soon. We would like to thank J&K Productions for all of their help and support thus far in our process, and we’re sure this collaboration will be a successful one. Be sure to stay tuned for updates. Until next time…. Powering off!
